PUSHUPS VS. BENCH PRESSES

What is better for building chest mass-pushups or bench presses?
Roger Calsio via e-mail

The bench press and the pushup both work the chest effectively. Bench presses are definitely better for building chest mass. The reason is simple. When you do pushups, even though you might get more reps each time, you are still pushing up the same weight over and over again. You can build nice pecs by doing this exercise, but you won't have a thick, dense chest.

It is no secret that lifting heavy weights builds muscle. To build a thick, dense chest you need to use heavy loads. The bench press allows you to use hefty weights which will eventually lead to a bigger and more massive chest. The pushup cannot do that. If you are looking to build mass in the pectoral area, go with the bench press.
