KING SQUAT

If you had to pick just one exercise to do what would it be?
Jerry Waserman
Clearwater, Florida

I would pick the barbell squat. It is the most effective exercise you can ever do. It is the king of all compound movements. Some exercises hit two maybe three muscles. The squat works the quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteus, lower- hack calves and the upper body. When you do this movement your upper-body stabilizes the bar on your hack As a result, you are basically working your entire body when You squat.

Think about this question for a second. What other movement gets you winded after a set? The answer is none. The squat is the most effective yet the most ignored exercise in the gym. Yes, ignored. People have more excuses for skipping squats than any other activity. Why? Because squats take a lot of energy, intensity and mental toughness to execute. Not to mention good form.

Some people avoid this exercise because they don't want to go through with this hassle. Well, you know the saying, "Squat or rot." You can also tell a guy who has great legs from someone who has only good legs. The guy who has great legs squats.
